Review:
In “Scared of Beautiful” we meet characters that are
complex, have issues, and most of all are very easy to
relate to. This story is the epitamy of life, issues that many
of us have went through and can certainly relate to not as
readers but as human beings. The struggles and pain that
the characters have faced are very relatable in this story.
Maia is a girl from wealth but whose story is deeper than
her parents pockets. She is still a prisoner to a past that
she thinks she has escaped. Her emotional scars are
deep and her answer to everything is to run. She struggles
with the pain that holds her hostage.
Jackson is the typical bad boy, off limits, from the wrong
side of the tracks, and undeniably is a mess. We watch
his journey to find himself. A crossroads of choosing a
new chance in life or remaning hostage to the street life he
has always known.
The story line of this book is a journey. These characters
may pull at your heart strings or frustrate you as we watch
them try to find themselves and maybe find love along the
way. Of all things these characters have faced and tried to
escape from, we want to see them overcome. This is an
up and down ride of holding on to fear and not trusting that
there is beauty in the breaking.
I would recommend this book. Aside from a few minor
flaws, this is a good read and I think that even though our
stories in life may be different we can relate to the
emotional scars of a past that haunts, a freedom that is
needed, and simply being so hurt that at some point we
have all been Scared of Beautiful.
